Themed Collectibles
You've heard it a thousand times: Group collectibles by theme for greater impact. Court's sly riff on that time-honored technique? She gathered portraits of men and boys, some of whom have mustaches. For those lacking in hirsute charms, the stylist added ruffled paper fringe, a Groucho mask, and—in the case of the vintage Secret Service target at far right—a penciled-in 'stache and clown nose.
Informal Frame
"How I hang something is part of its presentation," says Court, who didn't want to shine too precious a light on her own pencil sketch of sea creatures. So she relied on electrical tape. The rakish "x" tamping down the bottom-right corner serves as a parting shot, meant to be memorable.
Open-Book Gallery
Rather than merely photocopying or scanning a found image, consider Xeroxing an open book—cover edges, gutter, and all. "It allowed me to share this vintage travel journal without asking people to pick it up and read," Court explains. Here, the stylist tacked up the printouts—including one turned sideways—with poster putty. "The whole thing has a 'here today, gone tomorrow' feel," she says.
