DIY Wall Decor from Sibella Court

Adapted from her book The Life of a Bowerbird: Creating Beautiful Interiors with the Things You Collect, stylist Sibella Court, who works with clients like Anthropologie, shares her genius wall decorating ideas.

Just because the center of a wall is the obvious place to hang art doesn't mean it's the best. Instead, Sibella Court chose a door frame as her starting point, using poster putty to adhere midcentury flash cards so that they fan out from the entryway. "Don't worry about filling every blank spot," says Court, who punctuated the offhand installation with paper masks. "It reflects my style: not too perfect, not over-thought, and not at all fussy."

Floating Chalkboard

Before retiring chalkboard paint to the been-there-done-that bin, get a load of this brilliant move. Not only did Court slap on this square with purposefully rough, feathered edges, she also drew clean, straight lines inside them, resulting in visual tension—as if the paint were trying to escape its box.
